Basic Qualifications

Overview

Basic qualifications refer to the minimum standards that a candidate must meet to be eligible for a position. Questions may be asked of candidates to determine whether they meet the basic qualifications for a job.

Creating a Basic Qualification question

On the left side tool bar, select the option “Basic Qualifications” under the “Tools” menu. You should now see the “Manage Basic Qualifications” screen. There are four parts of the screen. The first gives you a field in which to type your question. The second asks what type of question you are asking (multiple choice, essay). Select what type of question it will be from the drop down menu. Next, select the box that says “require correct answer” and put a checkmark in that box if you want each candidate to be required to get the question right to be eligible for consideration for the position. The last part of your screen says, show on portal. If you select this option, every single candidate will see this question and have to answer it.

Once you have typed in your question and made the appropriate choices as far as question type and showing it on the company portal, click on the “Submit” button. You will now see the View Applicant Basic Qualification screen. On the right side of the screen, you will see the words “Add Answer”. Click on this link in order to add answers to your questions. Be sure to check the “correct” box next to the correct answer so that when the applicant answers it correctly he or she will get credit for it. The “order” field allows you to put the answers in any order you would like. Number the first answer to be displayed as “1”, the second “2”, and so on.

Where will a basic qualification be seen

If the question is marked “Show on portal”, every Applicant will see it after the personal questions (name, address, etc) on your career portal page. If the question is only associated with a specific job, they will, see the question once they apply specifically for that position.

Setting up Basic Qualifiaction(s) for ALL Applicants

When you create the basic qualification question, be sure t check the option that says “Show on Portal”. Every single applicant who views your career web page will now see the question.

Setting up Basic qualifications for ONE Job

There are two steps to complete. First, when you create the question, be sure NOT to check the box that says “Show on Portal”. Once you have the question created, go to the Requirement Profile page for the job with which you want to associate the question. From the Options menu on the Requirement Profile page, select “basic Qualifications”. You should now see the Manage Basic Qualifications screen. From the drop down menu of available questions, select the question you would like to associate with this job. Click on the blue “Submit” key just under the list of available questions. You will not see that question in the “requirement basic Qualifications” section of the screen. Repeat this process until you have set up the questions that you would like to associate with this job.

Where do I see the answers to the basic qualifications questions?

You will see the questions and answers in the “Attachments” section of the applicant profile page. They are attached in a PDF document so that the answers may not be changed.

What happens if an applicant does not answer a basic qualification question correctly?

If the answer is marked as “required correct”, the applicant will not be allowed to continue with the application process.
