“We’ve been facing a steady increase in restaurant competition that results in a dwindling pool of good applicants who proactively reach out to us,” says Terry Trim, who heads Operations for both restaurant locations. “We do some advertising in local and college newspapers, post jobs on our Website and, of course, get the occasional walk-in,” he continues, “but we really needed more applicants from qualified candidates to quickly fill any open kitchen and serving positions in a staff of about 50.”
“It was obvious that we needed a way to move our searches to the online arena, since we know this is the way people look for jobs today,” Trim explains, “and BrightMove had a cost-effective way for a small business like us to enter the 21st Century and ‘the cloud.’”
Trim adds that it wasn’t necessary to be particularly tech savvy to get the most out of the software. “After walking through it the first time,” he notes, “it’s a flexible and easy-to-use process that allows us to create our own job descriptions and codes, which, in turn, leads to better matched jobs and applicants.
“We were surprised at how many applicants the system produced as soon as we went live; in the first two weeks we had more than in the previous whole year. And the first 20 led to three new hires,” Trim says, addressing the desired increase in the number and quality of applicants.
“BrightMove’s Essential ATS is an efficient and economical staffing tool, perfect for independent restaurants and small chains,” Trim says, adding he never thought that his operation “could afford a staffing system comparable to those used by large enterprises.”
He has already recommended it to friends in the restaurant industry and reports that when plans of future expansion are realized, Kooky Canuck will be using BrightMove’s Essential ATS for their hiring needs.
